Regarding the question why Kennedy would fire the Han Solo directors so late in the day, when their disagreements had been obvious the whole time, I’ve got a theory (based on absolutely zero knowledge of how Hollywood works):

Back when Edgar Wright left Ant-Man, I read somewhere that it was unheard of that a new director would step in so close to the start of shooting, as it was a nearly impossible task. And I remember thinking that this might have been some kind of gamble gone wrong: Wright being at odds with Marvel over several things and then walking away in the belief that they cannot replace him and would have to come begging and offer a compromise.

I assume this could also be the case here. Since the directors had been at odds with Kennedy for a long time, I could imagine that they always stepped back from the red lines when they felt they were pushing their luck. And that, the closer they got to the end of principal photography, they increasingly thought they might be able to push a bit harder, be a bit more brazen, in the belief that no-one would bother going to the trouble of firing them that late in the game.
